Tennis Warehouse Acquires Swetka's Tennis Shop
Mountain View and San Luis Obispo, California - Tennis Warehouse, a leading global tennis retailer, is thrilled to announce its acquisition of Swetka’s Tennis Shop, a well-established tennis specialty store located in Mountain View. This move is part of Tennis Warehouse’s plan to expand further into the retail space where there is opportunity.
Known for its dedication to exceptional customer service, Swetka’s has been a trusted fixture in the Bay Area tennis community for over 50 years. The store was first opened in 1969 by Alex and Sally Swetka during the tennis boom of the late ‘60s. Swetka’s is still family-operated by John Swetka, who has been running the business for the last several decades. Since opening its doors, Swetka’s was named Specialty Retailer of the Year by RSI Magazine and subsequently one of the top 10 tennis shops in the country. The store currently employs staff with over 100 years of combined retail experience.
Drew Munster, CEO and founder of Tennis Warehouse, is excited about the expansion and says, “Swetka’s has stood the test of time, and we have great respect for the way John has built a successful business. As we’ve seen recently in both the U.S. and abroad, a spend-and-hope strategy may appear as though it’s working until it falls apart. Swetka’s employs a core group of people who know what they’re doing and have been there for a long time. Like the sport of tennis itself, you have to come with solid fundamentals, and that’s what Swetka’s has always done.”
“Our operational strength paired with Swetka’s customer service is a winning combination,” says Rick Kerpsack, president of Tennis Warehouse. The 3,000-square-foot space will still be home to the same staff who have served local tennis enthusiasts for decades. With this expansion, customers can expect to find an even wider selection of tennis equipment in addition to pickleball gear and other growing categories.
John Swetka adds, “I look forward to teaming up with Tennis Warehouse and delivering the ultimate tennis retail experience to both our long-time devoted customers and new players taking up the game.”
With several thriving retail stores located in Australia, Tennis Warehouse is confident the transition with Swetka’s will be smooth as the company looks toward the future. Tennis Warehouse aims to preserve the core values and traditions of the original Swetka’s Tennis Shop that customers have come to appreciate, while adding Tennis Warehouse’s product offering and expertise to the experience.
The acquisition of Swetka’s by Tennis Warehouse is effective immediately. Existing customers and tennis enthusiasts are encouraged to visit the store and experience the exciting changes already underway.
