‘Original 9’ Exhibit, Bucks County Tennis Trail Promote 2022 NPPTC

July 8, 2022

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The 2022 National Public Parks Tennis Championships (NPPTC) are being hosted in Bucks County by the Bucks County Tennis Association (BCTA), Inc., and supported by the Bucks County Tourism Grant Program. The adult and junior competitive events will include plenty of tennis festivities for tennis players, enthusiasts, and spectators. While numerous activities will occur throughout the weekend of July 22-24, when the NPPTC returns to the Philadelphia area for the first time since 1926, fun promotions in advance of the championships start now!

The Bucks County Tennis Trail—“The Road to the 2022 National Public Parks Tennis Championships” is a great way to enjoy the county’s numerous public parks. Visit as many of the 15 public tennis courts programmed by the BCTA in Bucks County by July 20 and earn a chance for a free commemorative NPPTC T-shirt, other tennis prizes, and even two tickets to the 2022 US Open in New York City (date TBD). Submit a photo of each court site to enter into the contest.

The “Original 9” exhibit, generously hosted by Bucks County Community College in Linksz Pavilion on the Newtown Campus, is a reproduction of the International Tennis Hall of Fame’s display that recognizes the nine pioneers who started the Women’s Professional Tennis Tour. This timely exhibit also commemorates the 50th anniversary of Title IX as well as honors Billie Jean King—a member of the Original 9—who is receiving the 2022 Eugene L. Scott Renaissance Award for her contributions to public park tennis. Plus, the free exhibit counts as two court visits on the Tennis Trail!

The celebratory NPPTC tennis weekend will include: the 20th annual BCTA Jr. Classic, adult prize money open tournaments and NTRP level tournaments—of which the women’s double divisions will be in memory of local tennis player, coach and volunteer Carol White, who passed away in 2019. Another popular event is the biannual novice-level BCTA Team Challenge (invitational only) that provides many youth and adult players their first competition experience.

The first 500 tournament registrants will receive a free T-shirt, and all players and guests can enjoy a player picnic/reception on Saturday. Visit the 2022 NPPTC tournament website for more details about the tournament, “Original 9” exhibit, Tennis Trail and other activities.

The National Public Parks Tennis Association (NPPTA) was founded in 1923 by Dwight Davis (who also founded the international team competition the Davis Cup) and each year the NPPTA holds its annual national park championships at locations around the United States. Celebrating its 99th anniversary in 2022, the NPPTC is an important reminder about the impact of public park tennis, and the millions of people who play it. The parks and tourist attractions in Bucks County are the perfect fit—fun for friends and families of all ages!

The BCTA is a Middle States Premier Provider, offering affordable, fun, community-based tennis programming in partnership with local municipalities/school districts at over two dozen outdoor (and some indoor) public sites. A major advocate of youth and adult tennis as a whole, the BCTA annually services over 2,000 participants county-wide.
