Tennis Channel Announces 2020 World TeamTennis Schedule
LOS ANGELES, July 16, 2020 — Tennis Channel’s live World TeamTennis coverage this season will showcase 19 matches and all nine teams from July 20-30, as the league plays its entire schedule at the famed Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. The action begins with a tripleheader Monday, July 20, at 12 p.m. ET, starting with the all-time classic Philadelphia Freedoms against the Springfield Lasers (visit tennischannel.com for schedule).
With men and women competing on the same teams, multicolored courts, no-ad scoring, let serves, cumulative point totals and supertiebreakers, World TeamTennis has long been known for innovation and excitement in a tennis world of unquestioned rules and timeless tradition. During the global coronavirus pandemic, World TeamTennis is taking the precaution of playing its entire season at The Greenbrier - America’s Resort - in West Virginia. Fan capacity is limited to 20 percent, with seat spacing, mandatory masks and temperature checks upon arrival.
There are nine teams in the 2020 edition of World TeamTennis: the Chicago Smash, New York Empire, Orange County Breakers, Orlando Storm, Philadelphia Freedoms, San Diego Aviators, Springfield Lasers, Vegas Rollers and Washington Kastles. As with any year, several of tennis’ biggest stars have committed to play. Among them are future Hall of Famers Venus Williams (Washington) and brothers Bob and Mike Bryan (Vegas). Others include 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens and 2014 Wimbledon finalist Genie Bouchard (Chicago), Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin (Philadelphia), and four-time major singles champion Kim Clijsters (New York). Olympic gold medalist Monica Puig will also play for Vegas, as will American star Sam Querrey. Fan-favorite Coco Vandeweghe, a 2017 US Open semifinalist, will represent San Diego this year.
