USPTA and ThanksUSA Announce Scholarship Recipients
LAKE NONA, Fla - The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and ThanksUSA announced the recipients of the 2018-2019 USPTA/ThanksUSA scholarship program.
Through the Tennis Thanks the Troops campaign, USPTA and ThanksUSA encourage USPTA professionals to raise money for scholarships awarded to the families of U.S. military personnel. Each recipient will receive a $3,000 scholarship towards their undergraduate studies.
“USPTA has opportunities to support a variety of charitable organizations during any year,” said USPTA CEO John Embree. “The partnership that we have with Tennis Thanks the Troops is a priority for our Association. Supporting military families with scholarship funds for their education is an admirable cause.”
The 2018-2019 Scholarship Recipients are listed below in alphabetical order:
- Alexis Blanco-Castano, majoring in Geography, Environmental Studies, and Anthropology at the University of Colorado
- Sarah Moehling, majoring in Biological Science at Clemson University
- USPTA/ThanksUSA Scholar majoring in English and Mathematics at Mercer University
Since its inception in 2006, ThanksUSA has awarded 4,500 scholarships valued at more than $14 million. Funds raised support ThanksUSA’ s mission of providing need-based scholarships for college, technical and vocational school, to the children and spouses of military men and women.
“I have witnessed the giving spirit of USPTA professionals who have hosted Tennis Thanks the Troops events or donated proceeds from a lesson or clinic,” said Jean Pletchette, Director of Tennis Thanks the Troops. “I have also experienced the joy and gratitude of scholarship recipients - it’s a WIN for all and we are truly grateful for USPTA support.”
