Dean & DeLuca becomes official US Open sponsor

August 23, 2017

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The United States Tennis Association today announced a multi-year agreement with Dean & DeLuca to become an official sponsor of the US Open through 2022. The new six-year partnership includes a significant presence at the US Open with on-court signage in Arthur Ashe Stadium, presence on US Open digital properties and on-site product availability for players.

The fine food purveyor’s on-site presence will feature dedicated product sales locations throughout the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, including club-level location in Arthur Ashe Stadium and the South Plaza.

In the inaugural year of sponsorship, Dean & DeLuca is launching its Dean & DeLuca Performance Bio Nutrition Bar – created as the first product in the new Dean & DeLuca Performance line – to provide athletes of all kinds the highest quality of bio nutrition available. The Dean & DeLuca Performance line is launching with the brand’s vision for wellness, bio nutrition and active sports lifestyle. Chef crafted for athletes, the bar is the “Official Performance Bar” of the US Open.

The performance bio nutrition bar will be available to fans for purchase on-site and sampling from the Dean & DeLuca activation booth. Dean & DeLuca will have the opportunity to make their new performance bar and assorted products available in a number of US Open player-designated on-court areas, as well as player dining, the player lounge and locker rooms.

The new bar, to be made available to the general public later this month, was created by Dean & Deluca in collaboration with Michelin-starred chef and athlete Alan Murchison. With the goal of combining great tasting food with the requirements of high-performing athletes, the bar will utilize powerful and natural ingredients such as matcha and espresso, manuka and mango, and mekabu and hazelnut.

“Much like the US Open, Dean & DeLuca is woven into the fabric of New York and we look forward to helping them grow their business globally,” said Lew Sherr, Chief Revenue Officer, USTA. “Their fine foods and gourmet offerings are an ideal fit for our event and we are excited to help introduce the new performance bio nutrition bar to the world.”

“Dean & DeLuca is proud to be an official sponsor of the US Open. Our partnership brings together two celebrated New York institutions. As the world’s leading purveyor of fine food since 1977, the tournament’s integrity, pursuit of excellence and timeless appeal are shared values”, said Laura Lendrum, Dean & DeLuca President, Global Markets and Retail. “We are excited to bring our culinary expertise and innovation to the world of sports performance with the unveiling of the Dean & DeLuca Performance bio nutrition bar at the Open.”

The 2017 US Open will be held Monday, August 28 through Sunday, September 10.

Twenty years ago, the US Open was transformed by the introduction of Arthur Ashe Stadium. The centerpiece of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Arthur Ashe Stadium provided the game’s greats – and its greatest fans – with a stage unmatched in the sport. Boasting a capacity of more than 23,000, Arthur Ashe Stadium is the largest tennis-only stadium in the world, allowing the Open to welcome more than half a million more fans annually than when its namesake won the men’s singles championship in 1968. Best of all, the stadium has grown with the times. In 2016, it added a retractable roof, banishing rain delays to the historical record and ensuring that US Open attendees could continue to experience the excitement of US Open tennis – regardless of the weather. Today, Arthur Ashe Stadium provides the ultimate showcase for the world’s finest players to complete the toughest two weeks in tennis.
