Special Reception for Pakistan Squash Team

January 3, 2013

Mahmud Jafri, owner of Dover Squash and Fitness Center and CEO of Dover Rug & Home, and Barry Hoffman, Consul General of Pakistan, are proud to host a special reception for the Pakistan National Squash Team on Monday, January 14th, 2013 beginning at 6:00PM at Dover Squash & Fitness in Natick, MA.

This event gives guests the chance to meet individual players and wish them well as they embark on their United States tournament circuit tour. In addition to celebrating the team, this event introduces a new program, spearheaded by Mr. Jafri and the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) where several Pakistani players in their teens or early 20’s are given the opportunity to compete in the United States for several months a year. The intent of this program is to give international exposure and tournament experience to these young players. Although Pakistan was a world leader in squash in the 1950’s through the 1990’s, political instability has increasingly discouraged the country’s players from competing at the international level.

Mr. Jafri, who grew up playing squash in Pakistan, came to the United States in the 1974 and has been a strong supporter of the sport ever since. He introduced it on a local level through the Dover Squash Academy he founded in 1987 and most recently, with the state-of-the-art Dover Squash & Fitness facility he opened in early 2012, located adjacent to the new Dover Rug & Home showroom on route 9, Natick.

In addition to Mr. Jafri and Mr. Hoffman, the host committee includes Shazia Bashir Khan, President, Pakistan Association of Greater Boston; Dr. Feroz Mahmood, Chairman Board of Advisors; Dr. Ghulam M. Chaudhry, Board of Advisors; Stephen Columbia, Board of Advisors; Dr. Nadeem Afridi, Board of Advisors; Dr. Jamila Khalil, Board of Advisors; Ali Merchant, Board of Advisors; Paul Mathieson, Director, Dover Squash Academy; Arshad Burki, Professional, Dover Squash Academy; and Hasan Jafri, Intern, Dover Squash Academy.

This event takes place at Dover Squash & Fitness, 721 Worcester Road, and (Rte. 9) Natick, MA and is open to the public. Pre-registration is required by calling (508) 651-3500 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Light refreshments will be served.
