Wimbledon Live in 3D Hits the Big Screen
CENTENNIAL, Colo. — One of the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world is celebrating its 125th Anniversary this July as the Final matches are showcased live in Wimbledon’s big screen debut, all in RealD™ 3D. For the first time, fans will feel like they are at center court as WIMBLEDON IN 3D takes movie theater audiences across the country into the action beginning with Wimbledon Live in 3D: Women’s Finals on Saturday, July 2 (9:00 a.m. ET / 6:00 a.m. PT); followed by Wimbledon Live in 3D: Men’s Finals on Sunday, July 3 (9:00 a.m. ET / 6:00 a.m. PT). Produced for the 3-D cinematic environment by Sony, these special in-theater events will capture the excitement, energy and drama that fans have come to expect from this famed sports championship.
“Tennis fans are encouraged to drop by their local theaters at any time during the matches to experience the thrill of the world’s finest players battling each 100-plus mile-per-hour serve and volley in the Wimbledon Championships events in RealD 3D from their historic, courtside seat”
Tickets for WIMBLEDON IN 3D are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the NCM Fathom website (theaters and participants are subject to change).
Presented by NCM Fathom, SuperVision Media and Sony, WIMBLEDON IN 3D will be shown in select U.S. theaters via Sony Digital 4K Cinemas and other digital cinema projection systems utilizing RealD LIVE technology, projected from the renowned All England Tennis Club.
“Tennis fans are encouraged to drop by their local theaters at any time during the matches to experience the thrill of the world’s finest players battling each 100-plus mile-per-hour serve and volley in the Wimbledon Championships events in RealD 3D from their historic, courtside seat,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of NCM Fathom.
Wimbledon has been held at the All England Club in the London suburb of Wimbledon since 1877. It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments - along with the Australian Open, French Open and U.S. Open — and the only one still played on the game’s original surface, grass, which gave the game of lawn tennis its name. The tournament takes place over two weeks in late June and early July, culminating with the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Singles Final, scheduled respectively for the second Saturday and Sunday. In 2009, Wimbledon’s Centre Court was fitted with a retractable roof to prevent rain delaying and interrupting Centre Court matches during the tournament. Wimbledon 2011 will see the best players from over 60 countries compete in the five main Championships events.
