MSG Plus introduces new tennis series

July 8, 2010

New York — MSG Plus and StarGames announced today that it will launch a new program this summer called “World of Tennis, presented by BNP Paribas.” The eight-week series will take an inside look at the sport, from the professional tours to the history of the game. The magazine-style show will debut on Tuesday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m.

“We are pleased to continue our partnership with StarGames and BNP Paribas,” said Dan Ronayne, executive vice president and general manager of MSG Networks. “This series will be an exciting addition to our tennis programming and will offer our audience a new perspective on some of their favorite tennis events throughout the year.”

Each 30-minute episode of “World of Tennis, presented by BNP Paribas” will be hosted by former tennis player Justin Gimelstob through voiceovers and reports, and feature five segments: “Look Back” – a review of notable performances over the past year; “Ivan Lendl Teaches” – tennis tips from the eight-time Grand Slam-winner; “MSG History” – analysis of past tennis events from the World’s Most Famous Arena; “Health Tip” – expert health and fitness tips from Dr. Vijay Vad, sports medicine specialist at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and author of “Stop Pain;” and “Recent Events” – a look at the latest events in and around the game.

“The ‘World of Tennis presented by BNP Paribas’ gives us an opportunity to expand our tennis platform for the benefit of our sponsors, events and industry partners,” said Jerry Solomon, president and CEO of StarGames. “We hope to cover the sport in a way that no one else is, which will also provide something unique for tennis fans.”

“World of Tennis, presented by BNP Paribas” will be produced by StarGames and MSG Sports. Presenting sponsor BNP Paribas will be joined by partners Tennis Magazine, Wilson, Essex House, Dr. Vijay Vad and the United States Tennis Association.

The annual BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden, dating back to the inaugural tournament in 2009, has been produced by StarGames in partnership with MSG Sports. Featured players have included Serena and Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic and Svetlana Kuznetsova. The upcoming 2011 BNP Paribas Showdown will feature four legendary players and two classic rivalries when John McEnroe faces Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras takes on Andre Agassi on February 28, 2011.
