*WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., June 21, 2010 — *The USTA announced today that Diego Moyano has been hired as a Clay-Court Specialist for USTA Player Development. In this role, Moyano will facilitate coaching and training programs designed specifically for clay-court play while working with players in the USTA Player Development program. He will be based at the USTA Training Center Headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla., and will report to Jose Higueras, Director of Coaching, USTA Player Development. Moyano joined the coaching staff on June 15.

“We’re thrilled to bring Diego into our program,” said Patrick McEnroe, General Manager, USTA Player Development. “Improving our players’ development on clay courts is an integral component of our program’s philosophy, and Diego brings a strong track record of success both as a player and a coach.”

Moyano, 35, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, joins the USTA after working with a number of professionals since becoming a full-time coach in 2005. Among the players Moyano has worked with are 2004 French Open finalist Guillermo Coria, 2007 Australian Open finalist Fernando Gonzalez, and American Robby Ginepri, who advanced further than any other American man at the 2010 French Open. Moyano is currently coaching Andrea Collarini, who recently became the first American to reach the boys’ singles final at Roland Garros since 2004, and who now resides full-time at the USTA Training Center Headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla. Moyano played professionally from 1997-2005 and won four ATP Challenger singles titles, all on clay. He also qualified for the main draw of the 1999 French Open, and reached a career-high No. 130 on the ATP Tour rankings in 2000.

The USTA Player Development unit has been created to identify and develop the next generation of American champions by surrounding the top junior players and young pros with the resources, facilities and coaching they need to reach their maximum potential. The Player Development program is based at the USTA Training Center Headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla., and also utilizes the USTA Training Center-West in Carson, Calif., and the USTA Training Center-East in Flushing, N.Y. In 2008, the USTA began implementing its Certified Regional Training Center program as part of its expanded efforts to develop future American tennis champions, which will expand the USTA Player Development program’s reach throughout the country by partnering with academies, clubs and tennis centers that have a proven record of identifying and developing tennis players. The USTA expects to name approximately fifteen Certified Regional Training Centers over the next five years.
