USTA Launches ‘The Big Serve’ Advocacy Website

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The USTA today announced that as a part of its overall Advocacy strategy, “The Big Serve,” it has launched an interactive portion of its website designed to help organize and mobilize people to use tennis to affect public policy.

The website — usta.com/thebigserve — will feature a variety of tools for visitors to utilize and will also be used to highlight the opportunities, successes and challenges of generating public support for the growth of the game of tennis. The website includes the following:

Featured on the website is tennis legend Billie Jean King. As a strong supporter of “The Big Serve” and its mission, King conducts a “How To” video discussing how visitors may utilize and navigate through the website. She also includes a strong message on the importance of growing the sport of tennis and building adequate facilities in communities throughout the country.

Along with the website, additional tools are available, including an advocacy curriculum and a published handbook.

“Tennis is the country’s fastest growing traditional sport and we are doing everything we can to continue this momentum, said Lucy Garvin, Chairman of the Board and President, USTA. “The Big Serve’s online initiative empowers ‘tennis activists’ everywhere by giving them complete access to a wide rage of tools to help make a positive change in their communities.”

“Advocating for tennis is a critical component to the long term sustainability of the sport,” said Kurt Kamperman, Chief Executive, Community Tennis, USTA. “The multitude of resources on this website will enable the already existing base of enthusiastic tennis advocates to effectively make change within their communities.”

“The Big Serve” is the USTA’s advocacy initiative. The effort is aimed at connecting the passion of USTA members and the larger tennis community with the public policy needs of the communities in which they live.
