Jarkko Nieminen Endorses Wilson Apparel and Footwear

February 10, 2009

Chicago — Jarkko Nieminen started 2009 playing “head to toe” with Wilson. In addition to his long standing racket contract with Wilson, the top 40 player debuted Wilson’s new apparel & footwear on this year’s pro tour.

Since joining the tour in 2000, Nieminen has been a consistent force with an ATP Singles title in Auckland ‘06 and an ATP Doubles title in Mumbai ‘07 with partner Robert Lindstedt. He has also advanced to the quarter finals in 3 Grand Slam Tournaments: US Open in 2005, Wimbledon in 2006 and Australian Open in 2008. Already starting 2009 out strong, Nieminen just reached his ninth ATP World Tour final by shocking No. 3 player in the world, Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-6(3) on at the Medibank International, an ATP World Tour 250 tennis tournament in Sydney.

Wilson will be working closely with Jarkko as he will be wearing different collections throughout the year that feature premium technical fabrics as well as integrating Wilson’s apparel technologies. Another key element of Jarkko’s switch to Wilson is the fit, performance, and on-court stability support focus that Wilson has developed for their footwear. Jarkko will also be wearing different footwear models that are more closely tied to the various surfaces he will compete on throughout the year.

One other aspect that appealed to Jarkko about Wilson is our growth direction behind the tennis apparel and footwear categories. “Wilson is of course a brand I trust and has helped me throughout my career, I’m excited to now expand with them this focus on their apparel and footwear areas.” Said Jarkko, he went on to add “Wilson not just had the highest emphasis on performance and quality, but I am excited at the direction they are taking in their style and look as well, that’s also important.”

“We are extremely excited about our apparel and footwear partnership with Jarkko,” said Claire Ortiz, Global Business Director for Footwear & Apparel. “We are looking forward to working closely with him on our current and future product initiatives as we work toward creating the highest level of core and elite performance footwear and apparel product.”
