Three Ashaway MonoGut Tennis Strings Provide Resiliency, Durability and Value

July 16, 2007

Ashaway, RI — Four years after their introduction, Ashaway’s three, multi-polymer monofilament synthetic gut tennis strings — MonoGut®, MonoGut 17 and the hybrid Crossfire® MonoGut — continue to turn heads. Players of all stripes report the strings play like natural gut, but wear like a tough monofilament. But unlike the premium multi-polymer monofilament currently used by touring professionals, Ashaway’s MonoGut is priced comparable to standard synthetic gut: that is, less than one-third the price of the premium monofilament strings.

“MonoGut is designed to satisfy hard hitters who find hybrids too stiff,” said Steve Crandall, Vice President of Ashaway. “The multi-polymer monofilament construction offers both exceptional durability and responsiveness that top players have previously only found in hybrid strings. Players nationwide have commented on the feel and control MonoGut gives them. And they like the price!”

MonoGut is manufactured from a proprietary multi-polymer blend, which is extruded with a fluorocarbon emulsion for easier stringing. This coating also provides better surface friction for superior bite on the ball when compared with traditional monofilament strings. MonoGut, which is manufactured in Germany, was designed by Ashaway and is produced to their exacting specifications.

Ashaway’s MonoGut is available in two gauges and one hybrid combination. The products are standard MonoGut in 16L gauge (1.27mm) and tournament MonoGut 17 in 17 gauge (1.22mm). The hybrid product is Crossfire® MonoGut where Kevlar® main strings have been replaced by MonoGut mains.

MonoGut and MonoGut 17 are available in 40ft (12M) individual set packages and also in 660ft (200M) and 330ft (100M) bulk reels. Crossfire MonoGut is packaged with 23ft (7M) MonoGut main strings and 20ft (6M) Synthetic Gut cross strings. Because of its unique extruded design and composition, the recommended stringing tension for MonoGut is 10 15% less tension than standard.

Ashaway Racket Strings are made by Ashaway Line & Twine Mfg. Co., the only U.S. manufacturer of string for squash, tennis, racquetball, and badminton.
