HEAD Introduces Latest Evolution of World’s Best Selling Racquet

May 31, 2007

KENNELBACH — HEAD has launched a new Tour Series racquet line — the MicroGel Radical — the latest evolution of the world’s best selling racquet for four years (1999, 2000, 2002 and 2004). Powered by HEAD’s new MicroGel technology, the new Radical offers aggressive, competitive players a very solid feel with tremendous spin properties.

The modern game of tennis has evolved into an era of harder hitting, increased spin and more aggressive spin speed. HEAD is leading the game with a modern update of Andre Agassi’s former weapon of choice for 14 years.

Agassi won 60 titles and seven of his eight Grand Slam victories while playing with the Radical. The Microgel Radical has already made its first appearance on the professional tour: No. 3 WTA ranked player Amelie Mauresmo recently won in Antwrep playing with the MicroGel Radical MP.

“The MicroGel Radical MP is my new weapon of choice. Just when I thought a racquet couldn’t get any better, HEAD comes up with something terrific!” said Mauresmo. “I love the feel of the racquet, its power and its precision. The MicroGel Radical MP takes tennis racquet engineering to a new level.”

The MicroGel Radical line will be available in pro/specialty and sporting goods stores in June 2007 and include the following:

The Radical line will also include new Radical bags. The orange, black and white bags have a fresh, bold look and include the Radical Tennis, Radical Supercombi, Radical Pro and Radical Backpack. The bags have an extreme abrasion and dirt resistant material on the bottom; longer, padded shoulder straps; metal buckles; and a detachable, adjustable, convertible shoulder strap system.

About MicroGel Technology

Focusing on the real needs of the pro player, HEAD combined a new space-age material with a stiff and strong carbon composite to provide the most rock-solid feel and unique touch ever achieved in a Head racquet.

MicroGEL is a silica based semi-elastic solid with a honeycomb-like structure, and the lowest density of any solid known on this planet. When combined with carbon composite fibers in the racquet head, MicroGel deforms and compresses upon ball impact, uniformly absorbing and distributing the impact load around the entire frame of the racquet, creating a rock-solid feel while offering extra stability against twisting.

“In today’s fast-paced, aggressive game of tennis, competitive players need a racquet that provides ultimate feel,” Kevin Kempin vice president of sales and marketing, HEAD Penn Racquet Sports. “MicroGel gives the Radical amazing response qualities — fans of the original versions of the racquet will be wowed by the feel of this one.”
