Dunlop Sports Expands Aerogel Tennis Racquet Line

May 23, 2007

GREENVILLE, SC — Dunlop Sports Group Americas is expanding its line of groundbreaking Aerogel racquets with the introduction of two new models: the Aerogel 7HUNDRED and 9HUNDRED. The new racquets feature Vibrocore comfort technology which significantly reduces frame vibration. The racquets are constructed using a sleeve made from thermal plastic resin and a silicon core that greatly diminishes shock waves at ball impact. The result: An exceptionally comfortable racquet that reduces the risk of tennis elbow.

Aerogel, a substance used by NASA scientists, is the lightest solid on earth, with strength 4,000 times its own weight. Dunlop’s team of engineers have incorporated this remarkable substance into a frame design that creates strength and stability while allowing perfect touch and feel for ideal control — what many describe as the ultimate performance racquet. With the addition of Vibrocore to this ground breaking racquet technology, the Aerogel 7HUNDRED and 9HUNDRED truly are the Next Generation of Racquet Technology with ultimate comfort!

Currently three of the ATP’s top twelve players in the World are endorsing the Aerogel racquet line including Tommy Robredo (Aerogel 3HUNDRED), Tomas Berdych (Aerogel 2HUNDRED), and Tommy Haas who won the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis in his first tournament playing with the Aerogel 3HUNDRED.

“We are excited about the addition of the Aerogel 7HUNDRED and 9HUNDRED because they bring the best technology on the professional circuit to the entire tennis community,” said Kai Nitsche, Dunlop’s General Manager of Racquet Sports. “The expansion of the Aerogel line further enhances Dunlop’s position as the leader in design and performance technology.”

Aerogel’s ‘Frozen Smoke’ Technology

Researchers and engineers at Dunlop’s sports lab responded to player needs, studied design and materials, and tested performance when choosing Aerogel for these new frames’ construction.

Nicknamed “Frozen Smoke” because of its lightness and hologram-like transparency — Aerogel is only three times the weight of air. Its unique properties have been proven by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory which uses Aerogel in its space missions.

Dunlop engineers have developed technologies that utilize these same properties for sport performance. The distribution of Aerogel throughout the racquet is engineered with Dunlop’s Multi Filament technology (M-Fil) for maximum performance. The result — the stiffening of the top of the frame for the minimizing of frame movement and the creation of more power. At the bottom of the racquet head Aerogel stabilizes, enabling superior player control and torsional stability. Aerogel combined with M-Fil creates the ultimate performance racquet.

The Racquets

Dunlop Aerogel 2HUNDRED. Perfect for high performance players with a long swing, the 2HUNDRED allows for extra power and spin in precision shotmaking.

Dunlop Aerogel 3HUNDRED. A control oriented racquet ideal for high performance/club level players. With Aerogel, the 2007 3HUNDRED is slightly lighter than last year’s model.

Dunlop Aerogel 5HUNDRED. Perfect for serious players looking for extra power and playability from a lightweight frame. The tapered frame stiffens the racquet for tremendous strength.

Dunlop Aerogel 5HUNDRED TOUR. Slightly heavier and stiffer than the 5HUNDRED, this racquet hits a consumer segment that continues to grow in the United States.

Dunlop Aerogel 7HUNDRED. Power, Control, and Comfort all together in a lightweight oversize frame. This racquet is ideal for players seeking a nice blend of both power and control.

Dunlop Aerogel 9HUNDRED. The most powerful racquet in the Aerogel line, this racquet has some serious punch. With the addition of Vibrocore technology this racquet is ideal for players seeking extreme power without sacrificing comfort.
