ITF, World Academy of Sport to Offer Athlete Certificate Scholarships

October 1, 2020

The ITF has announced a partnership with the World Academy of Sport (WAoS) to offer educational and personal development opportunities for junior players.

Each of the ITF’s 210 member nations will be able to apply for up to 100 players to undertake the WAoS’ Athlete Certificate at no cost. The online course, for athletes aged 15-18 years old, aims to provide tools for young people beginning their journey as professionals. It will provide information on elements including:

The WAoS is also the platform partner of the ITF Academy, which provides a wealth of resources for coaches, parents, teachers, players and others interested in tennis or sport in general. Earlier this year, the ITF announced that more than 340 theory-led content pieces, including over 100 online courses, videos, articles and scientific research papers would be made available for free, enabling over 120,000 users to continue their personal and professional development during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Luca Santilli, ITF Executive Director for Tennis Development said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the World Academy of Sport to offer this personal development opportunity to our member nations and their players. We hope that this will provide a valuable resource for talented players as they begin their journey as a professional athlete.”

Chris Solly, WAoS’ Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to offer scholarships to the member associations of the International Tennis Federation, whose players may be looking to enhance their industry skills and competencies in these challenging times.”

The ITF has placed the development of tennis and the future generation of players at the heart of its ITF2024 strategy. Providing education for players, coaches, parents and administrators is a key project to increase participation and support the development of talent from all nations.
