Gordon N. Pierce, Founder and President of Cape and Island Tennis and Track, announced today that he is retiring from running the business. He has announced that Kristoff Eldridge, the long-time running track division head, has been appointed to serve as president and CEO.

Gordy Pierce has been the President of Cape and Island Tennis and Track since its founding in 1972. Under his stewardship, the Pocasset, MA based tennis court and running track builder became one of the most sought after and award-winning contractors on the east coast. Pierce, a long-time member of the American Sports Builders Association, was recognized with sports construction’s highest honor in 2016; when he was presented with the Industry Merit Award. This in addition to serving on countless technical committees, twice serving as ASBA Tennis Division President and as its’ Chairman. A true tennis court building pioneer, he leaves a legacy of high achievement with his company and the industry.

In his announcement to his employees Mr. Pierce said, “We will have to be bolder and more creative in planning for the road ahead and I have no doubt that Kristoff will lead us into the best days of Cape and Island.”

Kristoff Eldridge, the long-time head of the company’s successful running track surfacing division, is moving into the senior role after two decades of experience. Eldridge, who has followed in the footsteps of Gordy Pierce as an industry leader in his own right; also, having served as an ASBA Division President and Chairman; has been well prepared to assume the job at hand.

Eldridge says: “I can’t thank Gordy enough for investing in me over the decades. I have been blessed with learning opportunities few can claim in this industry, and I’m looking forward to using those tools to lead the company through the coming years. Despite the challenges we are all facing, Cape and Island Tennis and Track is well positioned with an amazing team of experienced and talented people, who have contributed tremendously to the success of the company.” Adding: “Gordy and David Moore have been building up this solid foundation since the 1970’s and it’s a tribute to their hard work and dedication to excellence that we’re in the position we’re in today.”

Mr. Pierce had been succession planning for a number of years to ensure a seamless transition. Despite the impact of Covid-19, we are in a position to move forward and become a stronger as an organization. He will continue to serve the company and the industry as an advisor and innovator; while being able to spend more time at home with his wife Cathy, their kids and numerous grandkids.
