The application process for grants to support facilities that closed due to the impact of COVID-19 will be open on Monday, May 4. The creation of this grant program was announced on April 16, as part of a larger comprehensive suite of programs to support the tennis industry.

The grants are intended to assist facilities defray some of the tennis-related costs associated with reopening in 2020. The grants are not intended to cover lost income, dues or lost revenue while closed due to the pandemic. Examples of qualified tennis expenses associated with reopening include:

 Tennis balls and teaching equipment (i.e. tubes, carts, hoppers)

 Cleaning or sanitizing supplies or services (i.e. disposable gloves, disinfectant, cleaning equipment)

 No Touch Items (i.e. scanning software, automatic)

Criteria for facilities to be eligible for grant:

 Facility has 4 or more tennis courts

 Acknowledgement and agreement of non-discrimination practice and policy

 Good standing with local, state, and federal regulations

 Open to the public for play and/or programming

 Teaching pros are Safe Play compliant or agree to become compliant within 90 days of Grant Award

 Other criteria at the discretion of the review team

If a facility’s application is approved, grants will be awarded at three levels:

 4-7 courts – $2,000

 7-11 courts – up to $3,500

 12+ courts – up to $5,000

Although $5 million dollars will be allocated by the USTA for this grant program, it is anticipated that there will be more qualified applicants than available funds as it is estimated that 90% of all the tennis facilities across the U.S. have closed at some point due to the impact of the COVID19 pandemic. Therefore, meeting all qualifications does not guarantee that a facility will receive funding as demand will be greater than the funding available. Facilities are encouraged to apply early as the applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received
