Cliff Drysdale Tennis Selected to Manage Operations at Sand Valley

February 28, 2019

Rome, WI (February 26, 2019) — Cliff Drysdale Tennis, the nation’s leading tennis management company, has been selected to manage tennis operations at Sand Valley, a seasonal location featuring world-class golf and tennis facilities in Rome, Wisconsin.

Located on nearly 9,000 acres of land, Sand Valley sits in the tumbling prehistoric sand dunes of Central Wisconsin. The property features three award winning golf courses — the Sand Valley course, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, opened in 2017, and Mammoth Dunes, designed by David McLay Kidd, opened in 2018. Both courses received “Best New Course You Can Play” destination by Golf Magazine in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Finally, The Sandbox, a 17-hole par 3 course, was opened in 2018 and provides an extremely fun and fast option for resort and day guests.

The Sand Valley tennis facility includes 15 pristine grass tennis courts; one of fewer than 10 public grass tennis facilities in the U.S. and the first of its kind in the Cliff Drysdale Tennis portfolio. Sand Valley offers unique lodging catered to the traveling sportsperson, as well as three on property restaurants, over 100 miles of hiking and biking trails, and two boutique residential communities.

“We’re honored to be the tennis operator at Sand Valley, a truly unique location for our company,” said Don Henderson, CEO of Cliff Drysdale Tennis. “Combined golf and tennis facilities make for ideal sporting destinations. We look forward to encouraging travel to Sand Valley and making it one of the premier tennis locations in the Midwest.”

Cliff Drysdale Tennis was founded in 2001 by International Tennis Hall of Famer Cliff Drysdale and partner Don Henderson. CDT is dedicated to growing the game of tennis and strives to develop, promote and teach new programs that bring more tennis to more people. In July 2018, Troon®, the leader in club management, development, and marketing acquired CDT. The acquisition brings together two influential sports management companies that have been excelling at locations around the world for more than two decades.

“We have been testing the grass court concept at Sand Valley since 2016,” said resort General Manager Glen Murray. “Watching the reactions to how much fun it is to play tennis on grass courts surrounded by sand dunes has led us to want to share this unique experience with the world of tennis.”

The tennis program at Sand Valley will be in operation from June through August, and feature daily clinics, lessons, special events and tournaments. Additionally, CDT will host two themed adult camps throughout the summer that focus on the classic grass court style of play, such as the serve and volley. More information, including the announcement of a director of tennis, will be made available soon.
