College MatchDay Events to Air Live on Tennis Channel
ORLANDO, Fla., (Jan. 30, 2018) — The USTA and Tennis Channel announced that all six College MatchDay events held this year at the USTA National Campus will be carried live on Tennis Channel and Tennis Channel Everywhere — the first series of live college tennis programming Tennis Channel has ever aired.
Veteran broadcaster Leif Shiras and former world No. 4 James Blake will call the action, along with former world No. 5 Jimmy Arias serving as the ‘sideline’ reporter.
This is the latest of the USTA’s efforts to promote college tennis through television partners. Each College MatchDay in 2017 aired live on ESPN3 and WatchESPN, while ESPNU aired the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I Team Championships.
“College MatchDay demonstrates our commitment to growing college tennis nationwide,” said Virgil Christian, senior director, college tennis, USTA. “Through this partnership with Tennis Channel, tennis fans across the country will be able to experience college tennis at the highest level.”
“We’re excited to bring fans top-notch college teams live on Tennis Channel,” said Lawrence Randall, executive director, programming, Tennis Channel. “The USTA has created a great platform for showcasing men’s and women’s collegiate tennis and we expect it to resonate with viewers nationwide.”
The 2018 College MatchDay slate begins this Saturday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m., when the Florida and Florida State men’s and women’s teams play simultaneous matches at the USTA National Campus’ 1,200-seat stadium, the only off-campus facility in the country built specifically for collegiate tennis. The full schedule can be found below.
