The Bay Club to honor Patel
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Bay Club Company today announced the second annual Kunal Patel SF (KPSF) Open, running Monday, February 6 through Sunday, February 12 at Bay Club SF Tennis. The memorial tournament has joined the ATP Challenger Tour as a $100k event, welcoming leading national and international contenders from Australia, Argentina, Barbados, Canada, Ireland, Japan, Kazakhstan, Serbia, South Korea, Sweden and Switzerland.
The Kunal Patel SF Open, which honors the late tennis enthusiast and Bay Club member whose life was tragically cut short in 2014 at the age of 27, will host an international pool of players inside the top 200 rankings, and will be the largest professional tournament currently hosted inside the city of San Francisco.
Twenty-two players have been selected directly into the Main Draw based on their current world rankings. Each player selected for direct acceptance competed in the Australian Open, including ten in the Main Draw Singles or Doubles competition. The remaining ten players in the 32-player singles draw will be determined through qualifying rounds, wildcards and players with special exemption status.
“We’re honored to host the KPSF Open and celebrate Kunal’s life and passion for the sport,” said Ross Wisser, Bay Club Tennis Director. He adds: “We’re excited to have the support of the ATP and welcome the international tennis community to the city of San Francisco.”
Qualifying rounds will kick off on Saturday, February 4, concluding with the championships on Sunday, February 12. Tickets are currently on sale to the general public for $15, and complimentary for Bay Club members; a limited number of premium bleacher seats and luxury box tickets are also now on sale. Proceeds will directly benefit Youth Tennis Advantage. The full tournament schedule and tickets are available on the KPSF Open official website at KPSFOpen.com.
