Anderson receives Service Award

Hilton Head Island, SC — Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will present its annual awards during the 2017 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes more than 40 educational presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, will be held February 15-18, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Kirk Anderson, of Portland, Oregon, receives the PTR/USTA Service to the Community Award. Anderson is one of 11 tennis professionals in the world to be recognized as a PTR International Master Professional and USPTA Master Professional. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a Master’s in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University.

During his tenure as Director of Coaching Education at the USTA, more than 100,000 people participated in on court workshops he directed, and 70,000-plus Coach Youth Tennis online courses were completed for coaches working with young children, where he served as the project manager for the course development. He recently developed two online courses for high school coaches; one with the National Federation of High School Associations and a second for the United States Tennis Association.

Anderson has published dozens of coaching articles and has written 14 books on tennis. His honors include the International Tennis Hall of Fame Education Merit Award, the Person of the Year by Racquet Sports Industry, Professional of the Year by both PTR and USPTA, and the Western Michigan University Alumni Honor Academy

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 15,600 members in 127 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
