Smashers sign Kjaersfelt
Surrey Smashers have signed Danish international Line Kjaersfelt ahead of the 2016/17 National Badminton League season.
The 22-year-old women’s singles specialist has put pen to paper to make her NBL debut with Smashers, after rising to a career high world ranking of 22nd at the end of June.
Recent impressive performances, including a semi final appearance at the 2016 European Championships, have also earned Line a spot in Denmark’s badminton team at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where she will join fellow Smashers’ Gabby Adcock and Chris Langridge.
2015 saw the Dane take gold at the Copenhagen Masters, Scottish Open Grand Prix and European Games, propelling her into the world top 30.
After signing, Line said: “I’m looking forward to playing in the NBL and for Surrey Smashers. I have been following the league since the start and found it very interesting, so it’s going to be fun to be part of it and play alongside new teammates.”
Kjaersfelt, Adcock and Langridge are the first three players to commit to Surrey Smashers, with future signings due to be announced in the coming weeks.
Fixture and ticket information is expected to be released in early August, with the 2016/17 season kicking off in the Autumn.
