ITHF Class of 2016 to be announced Tuesday

NEWPORT, R.I. - On Tuesday, March 8, in conjunction with World Tennis Day and the BNP Paribas Showdown in New York City, the International Tennis Hall of Fame will announce the Induction Class of 2016.

Hall of Fame CEO Todd Martin will announce the news at the BNP Paribas Showdown press conference at Madison Square Garden at 10:30 a.m. The entire newly elected class will then be available on this media conference call for reactions and a question and answer session at 11:45 a.m.

The International Tennis Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving the history of tennis and honoring its greatest champions. Induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame is the highest honor available in the sport of tennis.

The nominees on the 2016 ballot were:


Justine Henin, a former WTA Tour world No. 1 and seven-time major champion Marat Safin, a two-time major champion and former world No. 1 on the ATP World Tour Helena Sukova, who won 14 major titles in doubles and mixed doubles


Yvon Petra, a notable French tennis player of the 1940s Margaret Scriven, British tennis champion of the 1930s
