PTR names Private Facility of the Year
Hilton Head Island, SC — Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards this week during the PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes more than 40 educational presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, was held February 17-20, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Circolo Della Stampa-Sporting in Turin, has been named PTR Private Facility of the Year. Founded in 1957, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs in Italy, and is also one of the largest private facilities in the country with 23 clay courts, eight of which are permanent indoor courts, four hard courts and a 4,000 seat capacity stadium court. Members also enjoy a beach tennis court, Olympic pool, basketball court, two soccer fields, two gyms, medical center, conference rooms, and a café and restaurant.
PTR International Master Professional, Luigi Bertino is the Director of Tennis, with five teaching professionals and seven coaches, most of whom are PTR certified. The club’s junior academy -Piatti Tennis Team - has more than 450 junior players working under veteran coach Riccardo Piatti and former Tour player Ivan Ljubičić. The academy staff consists of 12 tennis coaches, four physical trainers, a mental toughness coach, an expert video analyst, a physiotherapist and a nutrition expert. FIT (Italian Tennis Federation) considers it on the Top 10 Schools in the country.
Every year, FIT organizes events held at Circolo Della Stampa-Sporting, including coach development courses, management conferences and testing sessions for tennis teaching pros. The club also serves as host of the FIT Regional Tennis Center, where the best 14 and under players practice all year long.
Circolo Della Stampa-Sporting has hosted many prestigious events and tournaments, including Davis Cup, a Fed Cup final, Tennis Europe Tournaments, Italian International Championships, as well as five ATP $25,000 and five ATP $100,000.
Since 2012, Circolo Della Stampa-Sporting has been generous with PTR, opening its courts gratis for many PTR events and workshops. The club even supplies the teaching aids needed for such professional development courses. In 2015, it was selected as PTR Italy’s official education site.
