Tennis Channel year-end special
LOS ANGELES - Tennis Channel is expanding its second-annual “Player of the Year” and “Match of the Year” partnership with USA TODAY into an hour-long on-air program this month, titled Year in Review. Set to air Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. ET, the show will walk viewers through memorable moments of 2015 before revealing the network’s and newspaper’s combined choice for the best player and match of the entire tennis season.
Hosted by Mary Carillo, Year in Review will look at highlights of 2015 with Hall of Famer Lindsay Davenport (@LDavenport76) and coaches Justin Gimelstob (@justingimelstob) and Paul Annacone (@paul_annacone). During the hour the quartet will evaluate the accomplishments in women’s, men’s and American tennis this year, and also take a glimpse at what might be in store in 2016 when the season resumes in January. As Year in Review nears its conclusion, Carillo will announce the 2015 “Match of the Year,” followed by the “Player of the Year,” both selected by a panel of Tennis Channel analysts and a USA TODAY tennis reporter. The last segment will feature an interview with the 2015 “Player of the Year.”
“We’re excited to launch Year in Review and expect it to become an annual franchise that Tennis Channel viewers look forward to at the end of each season,” said Jeremy Langer, vice president, programming, Tennis Channel. “Tennis fans have come to rely on the unparalleled tennis expertise of our announcers throughout the year - they’re the foremost authorities on the state of this game. Capitalizing on that day-in, day-out focus with a robust, hour-long review of the entire year is a logical next step for us.”
Tennis Channel partnered with USA TODAY in 2014 for the inaugural “Player of the Year” and “Match of the Year” selections. Two Hall of Fame Tennis Channel analysts and a USA TODAY tennis reporter named Novak Djokovic’s five-set Wimbledon final victory over Roger Federer 2014’s “Match of the Year.” The panel also voted Djokovic “Player of the Year.”
