Istomin wins first ATP title
The 28-year-old Uzbek Denis Istomin (No. 62) won his first ATP World Tour title at the Aegon Open in Nottingham after defeating the American Sam Querrey (No. 44) 7-6(1), 7-6(6). Holder of 2 doubles titles (Moscow in 2013 and Montpellier in 2014), he had never tasted victory in the men’s singles despite 2 finals and a ranking of World No.33 in 2012.
Denis Istomin says: “It was a tough tournament but I felt very good with my game and I was more confident after every match. I just tried to be focused on every point and that was the only way I can give myself some chance to win this trophy. I’m very happy to win the tournament and I would like to thank all the Tecnifibre staff who have believed in me since 2008! My equipment had helped me reach a very good level of game and the results are here. I have been able to bring home a trophy.”
Denis Istomin plays with the T-FIGHT 325 racket and the Black Code string.
