Tecnifibre launches ‘Young Guns’ contest

May 21, 2015

As part of the On The Road to The ATP World Tour program, Tecnifibre launched on May 20th, the very first Young Guns on the Road project, a 4 month contest during which 4 athletes will compete against one another to win $50,000, a real financial boost to help them reach their goal: breaking through the Top 100.

Frenchman Jules Marie, 23 years old (ATP Ranking: 242), American Denis Kudla, 22 years old (ATP Ranking: 150), young Canadian Filip Peliwo, 21 years old (ATP Ranking: 448 and World Junior Champion in 2012) were chosen alongside Japanese player Hiroki Moriya, 24 years old (ATP Ranking: 150) to participate in this contest. All players have the same short term goal: to reach their maximum potential. In 2014, the average “entry age” of players in the Top 100 was 25 years old. For players of this level, $50,000 is equivalent to one year’s worth of expenses.

Canadian Filip Peliwo is motivated and excited about the project: “I have never heard of such an initiative in tennis. We are very fortunate. These funds are a very big amount for us. My rivals are serious competitors as well but my motivation level is 300%”.

Performance on court and sociability

Athletes will be judged according to 2 factors: their results on court and their performance on social media: their ability to animate and engage with their social community. Social media are a must in today’s world when communicating to the public. This means that athletes are required to do some PR work for their own “personal branding.”

This contest is an opportunity for fans to discover what goes on behind the scenes and for these 4 players to share with tennis fans their life on tour and the difficulties they experience at Futures and Challengers events, a place where all players pass through during their career.

Jeremy Chardy (ATP Ranking: 32), who recently joined the Tecnifibre Team sees an incredible opportunity for these young players: “The project is super! I would have liked to participate in such a challenge at the start of my career. This period is the toughest part for them. To support them and to give them a push is a great initiative.”

The $50,000 check will be presented to the winner by the President of Tecnifibre and the President of the ATP World Tour in November 2015 at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

For Tecnifibre, the “Young Guns On The Road” contest is an investment based on the brand’s values and its partnership with the ATP World Tour.
