Djokovic wins 3 Masters 1000 titles in a row
Monte Carlo, Monaco — HEAD’s Novak Djokovic continues to set records, becoming the first in ATP history to sweep titles at the first three Masters 1000 events in a season after winning a HEAD-to-HEAD final and defeating Tomas Berdych 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in a rain-interrupted final in Monte Carlo.
Djokovic also won his 17th straight match of 2015 as he added the major clay trophy in the principality to his Indian Wells and Miami titles in a match disrupted by a 70-minute rain delay as he led 3-2 in the second set. The Serb, who endorses the HEAD Graphene XT Speed, claimed his 52nd career title and 23rd Masters 1000 trophy, drawing level with Roger Federer for second on the titles list. He now stands a comfortable 19-2 over Berdych, who endorses the HEAD Graphene XT Instinct.
“I won this match with my heart and with battle,” said Djokovic. “Credit to Tomas, who stayed close to the line, pushing me back. So I had to defend a lot of the time. It was a battle. I played my best match and best tennis in the week against Nadal yesterday. Maybe I was also a little bit mentally exhausted coming into this match.”
In Bogotá, Racquet Rebel Yaroslva Shvedova, who endorses the HEAD Graphene XT Instinct, missed the chance at a second career title as she lost to Brazilian Teliana Pereira 6-7(2), 1-6.
In Fed Cup play in Sochi, HEAD’s Svetlana Kuznetsova (HEAD Graphene Extreme) helped Russia into the final, winning a singles rubber against Germany’s Julia Goerges 6-4, 6-4 to open weekend play on a win for Russia, which faces the Czech Republic in the final.
