Vargas wins first career pro stop
Arlington, Virginia — HEAD Penn professional touring player Maria Jose Vargas won her first career professional tournament on Sunday at the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) Christmas Classic event. Ranked as the No. 2 player in the world, Vargas was the top seed in the Virginia event.
Maria was named the LPRT’s Rookie of the Year in 2013 and last season knocked off many tour veterans en route to multiple final appearances. So far this season, Vargas reached three event finals before breaking through for the career best victory in her fourth try. Maria also won the Professional Doubles bracket at the Christmas Classic event.
While it was her first victory on the professional tour, Maria is no stranger to success at racquetball’s highest levels. At the 2014 Pan American Championships she brought home the Gold Medal playing for Argentina. The former World Junior Champion also earned a Top 4 finish at the 2014 World Championships.
The LPRT now takes a break for the holiday season and returns to the courts in late January in Cincinnati. To follow Maria and the rest of the HEAD Penn professional players, visit: facebook.com/headpennracquetball.
