Tennis Channel celebrates greatest matches
LOS ANGELES — On the eve of the 15th anniversary of longtime tennis writer and Tennis Channel contributor Steve Flink’s book The Greatest Tennis Matches of the Twentieth Century, the network is asking audiences to decide the five best Wimbledon matches from 1980 to 2009. Starting Sept. 29, Tennis Channel Plus will countdown the top matches based off of viewer votes.
With 35 years of Wimbledon history on the line, fans will have to choose between legendary matchups such as Björn Borg facing off with John McEnroe in 1980, Lindsay Davenport taking on Venus Williams in 2005, and Roger Federer battling Rafael Nadal in 2008, amongst others. After the votes have been tallied, TennisChannel.com will feature written introductions of each top-five matchup from Flink.
Tennis fans can see the list of Wimbledon best-of matches to choose from and/or nominate their own favorite on the Tennis Channel homepage at TennisChannel.com. Voting is now open and will close Sept. 26 at 12 a.m. EST.
