Think like a pro while on the go
New York — Spectators at tennis matches will have an even better time if they follow some tips on how to stay healthy and safe. The first is easy - be happy! “Studies show positive emotions enhance immunity.” says Julia Adamian, MD, FACP, Medical Director, West Park Medical Group in the Mount Sinai Health System. Dr. Adamian, a primary care physician in Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai Roosevelt’s Department of Medicine offers some ace tips for the audience:
- Arrive Early. Try to get there before the match to avoid the stress of navigating through crowds. Get ready to enjoy in relaxed environment
- Carry your clean. Bring a pack of sanitizing wipes. You might need them for your hands or the seats.
- Beat the heat. Apply sunscreen at home and reapply it at regular intervals. Wear a hat on very hot days to avoid sunburn and overheating.
- Keep Hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, sticking to water or juice, if possible. “The alcohol in beer or liquor might make you dehydrated and detract from the overall experience. If you’re looking for something with a kick, try flavored seltzer water.”
- Have fun! Cheer for your favorite players, take selfies and cherish the moment. Positive thoughts and energy are shown to strengthen immunity more than anything.
