WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The USTA announced today that it will refurbish courts at the Clanzel T. Brown Park tennis facility in Jacksonville, Fla., as a part of the USTA’s Davis Cup Legacy program. The program, begun more than a decade ago, is designed to leave a permanent tennis legacy in the communities which host Davis Cup ties in the United States.

To further develop 10 and Under Tennis and youth tennis in Jacksonville, Fla., which hosted the Davis Cup World Group First Round against Brazil, one court at Clanzel T. Brown Park will be converted into four permanent 36-foot 10 and Under Tennis courts with fencing, nets, and center straps. Seven other courts will be resurfaced and have blended lines placed on the courts to make them 60-foot 10 and Under Tennis courts. Work on this project will be commencing soon.

“We are having a very positive experience in Jacksonville and are pleased with the way the community has embraced tennis and the Davis Cup this week,” said David Haggerty, USTA Chairman, CEO and President. “The USTA’s mission is to grow tennis and give all people of all ages access to the game. We are proud to work with the City of Jacksonville to achieve this goal and leave a permanent footprint in this Davis Cup town with the Davis Cup Legacy.”

The $42,000 projected is jointly funded by the USTA, the USTA Florida section, and the City of Jacksonville. With a Davis Cup Legacy, USTA Professional and Community tennis partner to leave a lasting impression in communities that host Davis Cup ties. The Davis Cup by BNP Paribas First Round between the United States and Brazil takes place this weekend at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

Founded in 1900, Davis Cup is the world’s largest annual international men’s team competition with 130 nations competing in 2013. The U.S. leads all nations with 32 Davis Cup titles. The United States holds a 212-66 all-time Davis Cup record and owns the longest uninterrupted run in the World Group, dating back to 1989.
