Wilson players showcase racquet technology

March 2, 2012

CHICAGO — Wilson’s tour players (wilson.com), armed with the latest next generation racket technology from Wilson, are heading to Indian Wells, Calif., next week for the 2012 BNP Paribas Open. Wilson will have a strong presence with top competitors including: Vika Azarenka, world no. 1 and now 17-0 for this season; 16-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer; Petra Kvitova, Alexandr Dolgopolov and Milos Raonic, the winner of the fan poll for 2011 BNP Paribas Open “Breakthrough Player.”

During the past month, Wilson has seen impressive results with its newly launched Juice™ and Steam™ rackets, and the redesigned ProStaff® racket series. Since making the switch to the Juice 100, Azarenka won her first Grand Slam title in Melbourne to become the WTA no. 1 (first Belarusian in history to reach the no. 1 ranking). Feliciano Lopez, a Wilson exclusive athlete playing with the Juice 100, reached round 16 at the Australian Open to reach a career high no. 15 on the ATP World Tour rankings. Federer, playing with his signature racket, the iconic ProStaff Six.One, which is now available in three head sizes, appealing to a broader range of players, claimed his 71st career singles title last month with a 6-1 6-4 win over Juan Martin Del Potro at the ATP Rotterdam final.

Kei Nishikori made history with the Steam racket, as he became the first Japanese player in more than 80 years to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and now sits at a career high no. 17 on the ATP World Tour. Petra Kvitova is at no. 3 on the WTA with the Steam 100.

“We are seeing incredible momentum and an extremely high level of play from our players,” said Renaud Vallon, global tour director of Wilson Racquet Sports. “This is a tremendous way to start the season. Indian Wells will, no doubt, be the site for outstanding competition. We look forward to seeing tennis at its best.”

Other exciting Wilson tour players who will be in action are: Michael Llodra, recent winner of the Doubles title at the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament, Mardy Fish, Juan Martin Del Potro, Grigor Dimitrov, Feliciano Lopez, and Ernests Gulbis.
