Williams Announces Retirement
[CHICAGO] — Top ranked racquetball pro Mitch Williams has announced his retirement from professional racquetball. Mitch was clearly having the best year of his professional career when he suffered a devastating shoulder injury in the quarterfinals at the US Open in October. After months of trying to rehab his dislocated shoulder he felt it was time to end his career and focus on the next chapter of his life.
“Mitch has been a tremendous asset to the Wilson brand,” said Terri Graham, Business Director Indoor Racquet Sports. “Though it saddens me to hear this news, I am excited for his future in the pharmaceutical world and his upcoming wedding this summer. Mitch should remember all the great things he did accomplish and that the Wilson team will always support him.”
Mitch is a two time National Doubles Champion 2007 and 2010 and won the amateur National Championship in 2007. He has been playing in the top 8 on the IRT for the past 5 years and with his aggressive style of play he was one of the most dynamic players on the court to watch. Mitch will stay involved with Wilson racquetball by conducting clinics and playing a limited schedule of amateur and satellite events once his shoulder is healed.
“I am very proud of my relationship with Wilson,” Mitch said after announcing the news. “Wilson provided me the opportunity to travel around the country and play this great game. I have met some great people in racquetball who will be in my life forever.”
