USTA Eastern to Host QuickStart Clinic
White Plains, NY — USTA Eastern will host a QuickStart Tennis clinic at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum on February 24, 2011, giving kids on Presidents’ Week vacation a chance to learn tennis on a smaller court with equipment scaled to their age and ability.
The tennis clinic is part of the museum’s annual “Kids Week,” celebration Feb. 19 - 27, in which children have the opportunity to participate in dozens of fun, educational and interactive activities during Presidents’ Week.
Michelle Blake Wilson, Managing Director of Marketing and Communications for USTA Eastern, said the clinic will give kids a chance to stay fit and learn a sport they can play the rest of their lives.
“Our goal at USTA Eastern is to give kids the chance to experience the great game of tennis in a fun-friendly manner with top pros from around the New York area and all on board a world famous aircraft carrier,” said Blake Wilson.
QuickStart is designed around the same concepts as Little League Baseball and other youth sports such as soccer and basketball, all of which use equipment and field/court sizes scaled to the size of young children. The scaled-down equipment and smaller playing fields allow kids to achieve success the first time out—and sustain that success as they continue develop and refine their skills. The QuickStart equipment at the clinic is being sponsored by Wilson Sporting Goods.
In addition to the QuickStart clinic, there will also be a wide range of fun on- and off-court activities, including a photo station, off court tennis drills and other Sports Day activities.
The Intrepid is located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue) in Manhattan. It is open Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue), Manhattan. It is open Tuesday through Sunday, Tuesday - Sunday, 10 am - 5 pm. For more information, check out the museum’s website at interepidmuseum.org or USTA Eastern’s website at http://eastern.usta.com.
