IEC in Sports expands
The company handled all aspects of the organisation of the Stockholm Open tennis event in October. Television coverage of that event, won by Roger Federer, was produced in 3D — the first 3D tennis event in Scandinavia — and was shown on SVT in Sweden and in over 100 territories worldwide. The event was sponsored by Panasonic.
“The Stockholm Open marked the first time that we took care of an entire event, including ticketing and hospitality,” said Jonas Persson, CEO of IEC in Sports, which has sponsored every edition of the SportAccord Convention since the first one in 2003. “We see this capability becoming an important part of our business in the future.”
Television distribution remains the core business of IEC in Sports, which is distributing television coverage of the 7th Asian Winter Games in Astana and Almaty, Kazakhstan taking place from January 30 to February 6, 2011. The company represents the IAAF World Athletics Series package and recently concluded a major deal with Channel 4 in the UK. The package includes the IAAF World Championships in Daegu (Korea) from August 27 to September 4, 2011.
As the IEC in Sports event management division generates momentum, in addition to meeting International Federations, they will be at the 2011 SportAccord Convention in London to develop relationships with many cities from around the world, to discuss partnership opportunities with events of their own creation.
