Sony Ericsson brings fans insider tips with foursquare
Doha — Sony Ericsson today becomes the first brand to launch a home for tennis fans on the rapidly growing location based service foursquare™. Followers of “Sony Ericsson Tennis” will have access to exclusive insider tips and recommendations about the latest hot spots in cities where WTA tournaments are being held, all accessible through the Xperia™ mobile handset.
Starting with the Season-Ending WTA Championships in Doha, fans attending WTA events will be able to get tips on the best viewing locations, when to catch behind the scenes action at the practice courts and all the best night life by following “Sony Ericsson Tennis” on foursquare™. Star players will also be joining in, by leaving their own tips and checking-in to hotspots. In the 2011 season, fans should watch out for the chance to claim exclusive Sony Ericsson Tennis badges to add to their collection.
Stephan Croix, Vice President, Head of Global Marketing Partnerships, Sony Ericsson, said, “Sony Ericsson is excited to be innovating with foursquare™ to change the way fans can enjoy tennis events. Just by carrying an Xperia™ and checking-in to foursquare™, fans can now find a world of behind the scenes information on the best places to go at tennis events and the coolest things to do when they get there”.
Andrew Walker, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing & Communications WTA, added, “Social media plays a key role in helping ensure fans have the best possible tournament experience. Already WTA players have millions of fans across social media platforms, and this new initiative will help fans to get inside information on what their favourite players like both on and off the court.”
Holger Luedorf, VP, Mobile & Partnerships at foursquare™, states, “foursquare™ users are out exploring the world. For tennis fans, Sony Ericsson devices are the ideal platform, enriching that experience with timely information about the players they love and the tournaments taking place in their cities.”
