Delray Beach ITC 'Survivor Series' Open to All
DELRAY BEACH, FL (YellowTennisBall.com) — Imagine standing across the net awaiting a 150-mph serve from Andy Roddick. A dream? A nightmare? Perhaps, but this scenario could play out next February for any tennis player willing to take on the challenge.
ANYONE capable of wielding a tennis racquet is invited to participate in the upcoming trio of “Survivor Series” events hosted by the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (ITC). The prize? Each of the three “Survivor Series’” winners receive wild cards (free passes) into the ITC’s qualifying tournament February 19-21. The top four finishers in the qualifying tournament advance to the main event - the 32-player Delray Beach ITC, a $500,000 ATP World Tour event scheduled for February 21-27, 2011 at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center.
The first of the “Survivor Series” events will be held November 13-16 at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center. Participants can register for the FTA-sanctioned men’s open hard court event at the link listed below. Space is limited, and the tournament’s entry deadline is Wednesday, November 10.
With the winning Delray Beach ITC singles player taking home $75,000 and a 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera, the early entry list for the ATP World Tour event already includes Roddick, Mardy Fish, John Isner, plus the world No. 1 Bryan Brothers in the doubles field. Also returning to star in the 10-day ITC is John McEnroe, who will headline the 2nd annual ATP Champions Tour event after reaching the final last February in the inaugural event in the US.
The long-shot dream of playing in an ATP World Tour pro event did become reality for West Palm Beach’s Adrian Bohane, who in 2004 won the “Survivor” tournament, swept through the qualilfying tournament and found himself in a first-round Delray Beach ITC match against James Blake.
The second “Survivor” tournament will also be held in November (TBA) at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center with the third scheduled for January 29-31 on the clay courts of the Delray Swim and Tennis Club.
