McCormack Recruiting Players for SCF
Bradenton, Fla. — Coach Betsy Nagelsen McCormack is currently recruiting players for the first women’s tennis team at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), which competes at the Division I level of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Tennis is the latest sport to be added to SCF’s successful athletic program that includes baseball, basketball, softball and volleyball. Many SCF student athletes go on to receive sponsorships to compete at Division I NCAA universities or join the pro ranks straight from the school. McCormack joined SCF earlier this year and brings experience from the college tennis, pro tour and business sides of the game.
“As a longtime admirer of Betsy’s tennis accomplishments, I am very excited that she has agreed to come to SCF as our first women’s tennis coach. There is no doubt in my mind that she will lead SCF to national prominence,” said SCF President Dr. Lars A. Hafner. SCF is esteemed for its combination of excellent academics and prestigious athletics.
High school tennis players who wish to learn about the SCF Tennis program can visit www.SCF.edu/tennis for details and application information. The team begins play as the Fall 2010 semester begins in September.
“I have real passion for the sport and a real heart to help young people improve their games and their whole attitude toward competing and for success-on and off the court,” says Coach McCormack. “SCF Tennis is a unique opportunity for women who want to compete at the collegiate level.”
Plans supporting the SCF Tennis program include building a new tennis facility to host hard courts, a fitness center, classrooms and other amenities. The college is situated across the street from IMG Academies, a premiere training ground for elite junior and pro athletes that shares a friendly relationship with SCF.
“State College of Florida has such a wonderful reputation for being a quality academic school, and it is absolutely committed to the students and the tennis program,” McCormack says. “It’s one of the things I love about it—they’re very sports-minded and academically focused.”
