ITHF Calls for Nominations for 2011 BallotÂ
NEWPORT, R.I. — The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum has announced an open call for nominations for the Induction Class of 2011. Established in 1954, the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum is the official Hall of Fame for the sport and is a non-profit institution dedicated to preserving the history of tennis, inspiring and encouraging junior tennis development, enshrining tennis heroes and heroines, and providing a landmark for tennis enthusiasts worldwide. The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum recognizes and honors both athletes and contributors connected to the sport of tennis.
All Hall of Fame nominations can be submitted online at www.tennisfame.com. Printable nomination forms are also available online. Additionally, nominations forms may also be obtained by directly contacting the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum, 194 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI 02840, Phone: 401-849-3990, Fax: 401-849-8780, Email: newport@tennisfame.com.
Players are elected based on a distinguished record of achievement at the highest international levels of competition, with consideration given to integrity, sportsmanship and character. The International Tennis Hall of Fame has two categories for players. The Recent Player category is for those who were active in the sport within the last 20 years, but not a significant factor on the ATP World Tour (men’s), WTA Tour (women’s), or the Wheelchair Tennis Tour within five years prior to induction. The Master Player category is for those players who have been retired from the sport for at least 20 years.
The Contributor category recognizes administrators, coaches, officials and members of the media, whose exceptional contributions have furthered the growth, reputation and character of the sport of tennis. Nominees in the Contributor category do not need to be retired from their activities related to the sport.
All nominations will be reviewed by the Hall of Fame’s Enshrinement Eligibility Committee to determine those who have met the minimum criteria for induction. All nominations must be received on or before April 15, 2010 for induction eligibility in 2011. The ballot for 2011 induction will be announced during the 2010 US Open, and those elected by the Hall of Fame’s voting panels will be announced early in 2011. The official Class of 2011 induction ceremony will take place in July 2011 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum in Newport, Rhode Island.
