AAHPERD Hires Dr. E. Paul Roetert as CEO

Reston, VA, March 23, 2010: The American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) is pleased to announce that E. Paul Roetert was named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for AAHPERD beginning September 1, 2010. Dr. Roetert comes to AAHPERD after a 19-year career with the United States Tennis Association (USTA), where he was Managing Director of Player Development and Tournament Director of the US Open Junior Tennis Championships.

Vicki Worrell, AAHPERD President, stated “We are excited that Dr. Roetert has accepted the position. His extensive background in physical activity, biomechanics, and exercise physiology plus his experience with fundraising and program management make him an ideal candidate to lead AAHPERD.”

Dr. Roetert holds a PhD in Biomechanics from the University of Connecticut and completed his Masters of Science in biomechanics and undergraduate work in physical education at California State University, Fullerton. He was the Managing Director of Player Development for the USTA in Boca Raton, Florida. Prior to his Managing Director position with the USTA, Roetert was the Executive Director for the American Sport Education Program at Human Kinetics, in Champaign, Illinois. He has authored three books and numerous chapters and articles related to the fields of health, fitness, sport science and medicine, and strength and conditioning; and has given hundreds of scientific and invited presentations in the United States, England, France, Mexico, the Netherlands, Paraguay, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Thailand and Turkey.

Says Roetert, “I am very excited about the chance to lead AAHPERD. This is a great opportunity to focus on promoting active, healthy lifestyles and furthering the mission of AAHPERD as we deal with important topics such as childhood obesity and the lack of physical education programs in schools. As the leader in the field, AAHPERD can make a major difference in helping to solve these issues.”

Roetert has been honored with the International Tennis Hall of Fame Educational Merit Award, JSCR Editorial Excellence Award, Outstanding Kinesiology Professional Alumni Award from the University of Connecticut, and the Professional Tennis Registry’s Plagenhoef Award.
