Sobhy It In Berwyn
In a surprise all-American final of the Women’s Liberty Bell Open between two sixteen-year-olds, New York’s Amanda Sobhy emerged triumphant to win the $6,700 WISPA World Tour squash event at Berwyn Squash & Fitness Club in Berwyn, PA, USA.
Second seed Sobhy, runner-up in the British Junior U17 Open earlier in the month, reached the final after beating fourth seed Deon Saffery in the semi-finals - while her opponent Olivia Blatchford, the seventh seed, made her breakthrough with a quarter-final victory over top-seeded Italian Manuela Manetta, the 2007 champion.
But Sobhy, ranked 5 in the world, was in control in the final, winning 11-9, 11-4, 11-8 to celebrate her maiden WISPA title success in her first WISPA final.
