USTA's Clayton Joins Women's Sports Foundation Board of Trustees
*WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — * The USTA announced today that Chief Diversity Officer Kevin Clayton was elected to join the Board of Trustees for the Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF). Clayton joins the WSF’s 27-member board of the foundation, which was founded by social justice pioneer and sports icon Billie Jean King and is led by Stephanie Tolleson, Chair, Women’s Sports Foundation Board of Trustees. Clayton will also serve on the board’s Diversity Committee.
Clayton is elected for a three-year term, where he will lend his expertise in diversity and fundraising. With more than 20 years of experience as a diversity officer in both the non-profit and private sectors, Clayton will assist the WSF’s Diversity Committee on developing a new strategic plan.
“I am honored to be elected to such a committed board like the Women’s Sports Foundation,” said Clayton. “As a father of four daughters, one granddaughter and four nieces who have all been personally involved and impacted by sports, I am keenly aware of the challenges and obstacles that girls and women face in athletics. I hope to add value to the WSF by looking to the influential women in my life as we continue to level the playing field for women in sports.”
“Given his considerable experience in sales and marketing as well as diversity training and recruiting for the country’s top companies, Kevin is uniquely qualified to help guide the Women’s Sports Foundation’s renewed commitment to diversity and inclusiveness,” said Tolleson. “I believe his background and knowledge will help lay the groundwork for the foundation’s future expansion.”
Clayton has additionally served on a number of diversity advisory boards and committees, including the Women’s Resource Center, the Anti-Prejudice Consortium, and the Diversity Best Practices Diversity Council. Currently, Clayton is on the National Advisory Board for the National Association for Black Sports Professionals. He also worked for Russell Athletic/Spaulding as Corporate Vice President of Diversity.
The Women’s Sports Foundation’s Board of Trustees is legally responsible for the exemplary operation of the organization. The Trustees consist of champion female athletes, prominent businesspersons, major benefactors and leaders of women’s sports organizations. They establish fiscal policy, assist in the acquisition of adequate financial and human resources and oversee the accomplishment of the Foundation goals and objectives. A nine-person executive committee meets monthly and the full board meets three times per year.
