Berdych Bags Fourth Career Title in Japan
GREENVILLE, SC - - Ripping winners with his Dunlop Aerogel 200 from the outset of the match, Tomas Berdych earned his fourth career title with a 6-1, 6-4 command performance against the ATP Tour’s hottest player, Juan Martin del Potro. It marks the first time Berdych has hoisted the winner’s trophy since he won Halle last season.
In addition to the four titles, the Dunlop Tour Team has reached nine finals in 2008, placing Dunlop Aerogel racquets amongst the most successful on the ATP Tour. On his way to yesterday’s final, Berdych left behind an impressive trail of seeded opponents, knocking off Andy Roddick, Tommy Robredo and Fernando Gonzalez during the week. On Sunday, the Czech player came through against del Potro with an outstanding serving performance, firing 11 aces with no double faults. He joins Robredo and Nicolas Almagro as winners this year on Tour for Dunlop.
“The members of the Dunlop Tour Team are showcasing some excellent play heading towards the finish of the 2008 ATP Tour season,” said Kai Nitsche, Dunlop’s Vice President of Racquet Sports. “We have four Top 20 players who all have a legitimate chance of making it to the season ending Masters Cup in Shanghai. It should be an exciting end of the season.”
