The Claremont Resort and Spa Partners With Berkeley Tennis Club for the Girls' 18 National Championship
BERKELEY, Calif. -– The Berkeley Tennis Club (BTC) and The Claremont Resort & Spa are proud to once again host the USTA Girls’ 18 National Championship August 2-10, 2008. Top players throughout the country have an opportunity to show their skills and spirit before scouting college coaches and encouraging fans. The winner of the tournament receives the Maureen Brinker Connelly Trophy for winning the National Championship and demonstrating the highest quality of play, sportsmanship and competitive spirit along with a Wild Card entry into the 2008 U.S. Open Championships.
The BTC and The Claremont are excited about the opportunity for Bay Area spectators to have the opportunity to witness eight days of national caliber tennis on both the BTC and The Claremont courts. Last year’s proceeds of $5,000 were donated to Youth Tennis Advantage (YTA), a Bay Area organization dedicated to serving youth in the inner city communities in and around San Francisco and Oakland. The close partnership between The Claremont and The BTC ensures the tournament will be another overwhelming success this year.
The setting of the BTC makes playing tennis a unique experience. With 10 tennis courts, pool and spa amenities, a fitness facility in the upper clubhouse and a ballroom for special functions, The BTC along with its newly created Berkeley Tennis Club Foundation is committed to the promotion of tennis to their members and the community.
The Claremont is recognized as a “Top 50 Tennis Resort” by the Tennis Industry Association and U.S. Tennis Association and leads the charge in the growth of the sport by providing well-rounded programs to new and current players. Ten newly renovated outdoor tennis courts, six of which are illuminated for night play, are open for guest and member use. Expert instruction is available from USPTA certified professionals with use of ball machines, practice wall, game matching service and racket restringing on-site. Socials, junior programs, tournaments and private or group lessons are held year-round. Players of all ages and abilities are welcomed by tennis professionals who make tennis fun, friendly, challenging and a lifetime sport interest whether for leisure or competition.
Born of a “golden” era, The Claremont Resort & Spa stands watch over the glistening Golden Gates of San Francisco Bay. The Claremont is a tradition, an entitlement of generations and America’s quintessential grand resort: its 279 uniquely designed rooms have a AAA Four-Diamond status where guests luxuriate in the famous Bay Area views enticing them to explore San Francisco and California’s wine country.
