When: March 3rd to March 9th
Event Location: Bangalore, India
Prize Money: $600,000
Defending Champion: Yaroslavia Shvedova
The 2008 Bangalore Open is underway in India with 22 year-old Jelena Jankovic as the tournament’s top seed. The world number four Jankovic will compete with the likes of the Williams sisters who are expected to make an impression in India’s richest tennis tournament.
The Bangalore Open was surrounded with some controversy towards the beginning of the month when Indian star Sania Mirza withdrew because she was criticized in the past by Indian ultra nationalists for wearing short skirts and sleeveless tops on the court.
Do you think that Mirza should have withdrawn from the tournament or do you think that she should have taken a stand and competed regardless of the controversy?
Will favored Serbian Jelena Jankovic win this week’s tournament?
