International Tennis Hall of Fame Honors Peter Hurley With Chairman's Award
NEWPORT, RI — International Tennis Hall of Fame Chairman Wick Simmons has announced that Peter Hurley is the 2007 recipient of the prestigious Chairman’s Award. The Chairman’s Award recognizes outstanding service by a Hall of Fame Board Member.
“Pete has done an outstanding job for the Hall of Fame,” said Wick Simmons, Chairman of the Hall’s Board of Directors. “He continues to bring us new opportunities and has successfully increased our fundraising efforts around Hall of Fame Weekend, the Gibson Guitar Championships and the annual Legends Ball event in New York City, our biggest and most important fundraiser of the year.”
Hurley was named to the International Tennis Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors in September of 2004. He currently serves on the Executive and Tournament Committees and is also the Auction Chair for the Hall of Fame’s annual Legends Ball, which was held on Friday, September 7 at Cipriani in Manhattan.
Including last week’s Legend’s Ball auction, the Hall has seen a 400% increase in revenue and has netted more than $500,000 in auction income during the past 18 months. The auctions have also featured one-of-a-kind experiential packages, including hit sessions and meet-and-greets with Hall of Famers such as Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Billie Jean King, Pete Sampras and Pam Shriver.
Hurley is president of Synergy Events based in Ocean, New Jersey, an event and sports marketing company that has executed 6,000-plus events in more than 150 markets throughout the United States, Canada and Asia. Synergy has helped its clients activate around the game of tennis by bringing its portable tennis courts and serving cages to hundreds of professional tennis tournaments and to non-traditional, high-traffic, consumer locations including Times Square, Grand Central Terminal and South Beach. And although tennis and sports in general remain at the core of the company’s heritage, its client roster through the years has included 25 Fortune 100 companies and industry leaders inside and outside of sports. Among many others, the company has worked directly with or on behalf of some of the most popular and recognizable brands, (KFC, M&M’s, Nike, Staples, The Today Show) sanctioning bodies (USTA, NASCAR, NTRA, USA Football) and today’s top marketing agencies and PR firms, (Momentum, Taylor, Weber Shandwick).
Hurley, 42, is a graduate of the University of Vermont and a native of Boston. He and his wife Paula live in Shrewsbury, New Jersey and are proud parents of two children, William and Laura.
