2007 US Open Theme Art Captures the Spirit of the US Open and Welcomes the World to New York

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., June 28, 2007 — The USTA today unveiled the official 2007 US Open theme art created by Joanne Hus, the first woman to design theme art for the US Open. The theme art captures the personality of both the US Open and New York with a powerful and symbolic design, reflecting the event’s unique combination of sports, entertainment and international competition. Over 400 players from more than 65 countries compete each year at the US Open, the highest attended annual sporting event in the world.

The theme art contains an uplifted tennis racquet alongside the Statue of Liberty’s raised torch with the US Open’s iconic flaming ball logo serving as the torch’s flame. The raised racquet and torch rise from a silhouetted New York City skyline, braced by klieg lights to frame the design. The theme art design will be incorporated into all 2007 US Open promotional and collateral materials, including tickets, the official tournament magazine, and tournament poster.

Hus became the first woman to design theme art in the 126-year history of the US Open. A resident of Stamford, Conn., she has created commissioned artwork for some of the most recognized companies in the country, including Chase Manhattan Bank, Bloomingdale Magazine, and GE Capital.

The 2007 US Open will be held Monday, August 27 through Sunday, September 9. Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day presented by Hess, a full-day tennis and music festival for children and families, will take place Saturday, August 25. Tickets for the the 2007 can be purchased via USOpen.org, or by calling 1-866-OPEN-TIX.
