Hydration: A Fluid Game

No matter the season, it’s important that your players stay hydrated and healthy.

By Cynthia Sherman

Dehydration can sneak up on you. Even if a player doesn’t feel thirsty, he or she may be just a few minutes away from exhibiting signs of dehydration, such as feeling tired or dizzy, experiencing a rapid heart rate, or developing a headache. And symptoms may quickly worsen.

Even mild dehydration can affect performance. For your players — not just in the heat of the summer, but in any season — it’s important to drink fluids regularly, both before play and during play.

We’ve rounded up some great water bottles you might want to consider in your shop or facility, so your players can hydrate in style.

Polar Sport

Polar’s 24-ounce Sport is the original insulated water bottle. It is lightweight, squeezable, and dishwasher and freezer safe. It comes with a removable “CarryLoop” and drinking valve for easy cleaning. Shown here is the Sport Spin, which comes in a variety of colors and patterns and with free replacement caps. Suggested retail price starts at $12.99.

Klean Kanteen Classic

Klean Kanteen is known for its bottles’ insulating properties. Its most popular model is the 27-ounce stainless Classic. The leak-proof “Loop Cap” protects your bag or purse, and the Sport Cap 3.0 features a soft silicone spout, with a 25 percent higher flow rate. It’s easy to drink from and can be thrown in the dishwasher. Suggested retail is $20.95.

Simple Modern Summit

The Simple Modern Summit water bottle is made from premium-gauge stainless steel, is double-walled and vacuum insulated, and it keeps drinks cold for up to 24 hours or hot for up to eight hours. Plus, it doesn’t sweat. The 32-ounce Summit comes with a flip lid with a handle. While it’s not dishwasher-safe, the wide mouth makes it easy to clean. Retail price is $24.99.

Mira Cascade

The 25-ounce stainless steel Cascade bottle comes in more than 20 colors and prints, and features a leak-proof, insulated, stainless-steel cap. The non-sweat bottle is easy to carry, and no matter what the outside temperature, it will keep drinks chilled for 24 hours or hot for up to 12 hours. The bottle retails for $21.97 and is BPA and Phthalate free.

The Boulder’s spout makes it easy to drink from, and the wide mouth makes it easy to fill. There is also a removable strainer for fruit or ice. A leak-proof top makes it ideal for tossing into a tennis bag. It retails for $28.95.
